2. Architecture of the Visualization WWW server

2. 1. Accessing the server

The visualization server may be accessed as any other WWW-page using a browser such as Netscape. The home page of the visualization server contains the necessary information on how to use the server and offers description of accepted data formats. The home page, as well as the front page of the visualization server are supplied by the usual WWW server (Figure 1). In our case, we make use of the Apache daemon. When the user loads the front end of the visualization server a JAVA applet is loaded to the client site which drives the user interface and the communication between visualization server and client.
